HSD connection system (High Speed Data) is a high-performance data connection system, which is a fully shielded interconnection system. It prevents crosstalk and interference from external sources, and the characteristic impedance is 100Ω. It was first launched by Rosenberger in 2007, leading a new trend in vehicle digital signal transmission at that time.
HSD provides two differential signal pairs for automotive industry development interfaces. Therefore, it can not only send data based on low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS), but is widely used in automotive infotainment modules, cameras, head-up displays, etc. It can also be used in USB2.0/3.0 and Ethernet (10Base-T1s, 100BASE-TX, 100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1, BroadR-Reach) specifications, with high shielding efficiency.
HSD connectors are usually used with Fakra and Mini-Fakra. In surround-view ADAS system applications, the camera is connected to the wiring harness through the Fakra connector, and the other end of the wiring harness is connected to the HFM (Mini-Fakra) connector. This allows the collected data to be transmitted to the vehicle surround view system (AVM), and then the HSD connector is connected to the wiring harness to transmit the data to the host. The data is ultimately fed to the display via the HSD+2 connector.
HSD can not only send data based on low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS), but can also be used in USD2.0/3.0 and Ethernet specifications, with high shielding efficiency. With the introduction of Automotive Ethernet, HSD connectors will become a compatible solution. From the perspective of HSD connector manufacturers, globally, the core manufacturers of automotive HSD connectors mainly include Tyco, Yazaki, Amphenol, Aptiv, JAE and Rosenberg.
Classification of HSD connectors
HSD has a variety of integration types – single/double cavity, straight/angled, waterproof/non-waterproof, and some other special +2, +4, +8 (on demand) added power PIN connectors. A separately added power PIN can be used for larger current power supply.
