Several Charging Methods for Type 1, 2, 3 EV Cehicles

Intelligent AC charging pile

What is the difference between Type 1 Type 2 and Type 3 EV chargers?

High power AC pile:
In addition, my country’s national conditions also determine that there are very few high-power AC piles. The voltage of my country’s civil AC power grid is a fixed value, single-phase is 220V, and three-phase is 380V (line voltage). The AC charging current national standard has recommended values, 10A/16A/32A/63A. At the same time, the standard stipulates that the single-phase charging current shall not exceed 32A. There are no specific regulations on the current size of three-phase charging. Currently, the three-phase charging current is between 16A and 63A.
Based on this arrangement and combination, we can calculate the charging power of 2.2kW, 3kW, 7kW, 11kW, 21kW, 41kW, etc.
The maximum power of 220V single-phase charging is 220V times 32A, which is approximately 7kW. The minimum three-phase charging is 380 times 16 times square root 3, which is approximately 11kW. Because most of the distribution lines and capacity of residential areas support single-phase 32A, many models are equipped with home charging piles of 7kW.

Most commercial charging piles have relatively ample power distribution capacity. For higher charging efficiency, circulation rate and economic benefits, the power generally starts at 11kW, or even higher. However, 380V 63A AC piles with a power of 41kW are equally rare.

High specification car charger
The higher the power of the AC charging pile, the higher the specifications of the on-board charger and vehicle socket required, the weight, and the interior space layout of the vehicle will be higher, and the costs of the car companies will also increase accordingly. Car companies rarely equip vehicles with high-standard on-board chargers. Without high-standard car chargers, high-power AC piles will be useless.

Car charging
If this is a last resort, you can directly use an ordinary three-prong household socket, which has two specifications: 10A and 16A. It can be used when the car is not in urgent need. The advantage is that it can make full use of low power periods for charging and reduce charging costs. The more important advantage is that it can deeply charge the battery, improve battery charging and discharging efficiency, and extend battery life.

Charging on rainy days
There is no need to worry about this problem. Charging the car on rainy days has been considered from the beginning of the design. Whether it is fast charging or slow charging, the charging port is recessed and designed with an inward slope, and is also designed with an insulating sealing ring around it. If you are worried about a small amount of rainwater entering the charging port, you don’t have to worry about water rising up. The rainwater will flow out from the drainage hole below.

Each hole in the fast/slow charging port has its own function.
Taking slow charging as an example, the top two holes are monitoring holes (blue boxes). Only when these two holes are in complete contact with the charging gun will current flow. The remaining five holes are only responsible for charging. Each hole of the charging gun is insulated from each other. The connection parts in the top two holes (①, ②) need to be connected to the two monitoring holes above the vehicle charging port. The connection part in the charging gun is designed to be very short. Only when the charging gun is fully connected to the charging port will current flow. When the charging gun is just about to be pulled out, the upper monitoring part is the first to disconnect and limit the current to continue to flow. .

Not only does the charging port have various preventive measures, the charging gun is also waterproof, with a dustproof and waterproof level of IP65. Therefore, normal rainfall or even heavy rain will not cause danger to the charging port. Unless the vehicle is in a low-lying area and the charging port is flooded with water, the risk of short circuit will only occur when charging.
