Rotary switches can be used to replace rotary pulse generators that mimic the function of conventional resistive potentiometers. A rotary switch uses a quadrature optical encoder as a purely digital device instead of an analog potentiometer. Similar to traditional incremental encoder products, there are two quadrature output signals (channel A and channel B), which can be directly connected to the encoder processing chip.
Introduction to Electronic Rotary Switches

The electronic rotary switch is a switch that controls the on-off of the main contact by rotating the handle. The unipolar unit rotary switch is often used together with the rotary shaft potentiometer in the application, while the multi-pole multi-position rotary switch is mostly used for switching the working state circuit.
