Socket is also known as power socket and switched socket (British standard, national standard, American standard, European standard, South African standard, Italian standard…various socket specifications). Receptacle refers to the socket end that has one or more circuit plug connections that can be inserted . The power socket is convenient for connecting with other electrical circuits. Through the connection and disconnection between the line and the copper parts, the final connection and disconnection of the part of the circuit is achieved. The ports and standards of power sockets vary from country to country.
Types of power outlets
Classified by use:
Civil sockets, industrial sockets, waterproof sockets, ordinary sockets, power sockets, computer sockets, telephone sockets, video and audio sockets, mobile sockets; usb sockets. {GB2099.1-2008/IEC60884-1: 2006, E3.1, MOD “Plugs and Sockets for Household and Similar Purposes Part 1: General Requirements” definition}
(Socket-outlet) Power socket: It has a socket designed to fit with the pin of the plug, and is equipped with an electrical accessory for connecting the terminal of the flexible cable.
(Fixed socket-outlet): A socket for connection to fixed wiring.
(Portable socket-outlet): A socket that is intended to be connected to or integral with a flexible cable and that is easily moved from one place to another when connected to a power source.
(Multiple socket-outlet): A combination of two or more socket interfaces.
(Socket-outlet for appliances): A socket intended to be incorporated in or fixed to an appliance.
(Rewirable plug or Rewirable protable socket-outlet): An electrical socket accessory that can replace the flexible cable structurally.
(Non-rewirable plug or Non-rewirable protable socket-outlet): After being connected and assembled by the socket manufacturer, it is an electrical socket accessory that is structurally integrated with the flexible cable.
Note: Household wall sockets are fixed sockets. A plug without a power cord is called a portable socket. A whole with a plug is called a converter (Adaptor).
Products with national standard combination holes usually used should belong to the converter, and the standard that complies with is GB2099.3-2008 “Plugs and Sockets for Household and Similar Purposes Part 2: Special Requirements for Converters” (IEC60884-2-5:1995, MOD) . A converter is defined as a portable electrical accessory consisting of both a plug part and one or more socket parts as an integral unit. Specifically, the socket mentioned by most people should actually be a socket that meets the GB1002-2008 hole type, that is, a pure national standard socket product.
How to connect the power outlet
1. First use a test pen to find out the live wire;
2. Turn off the socket power;
3. Connect the live wire to one of the two holes marked A in the switch, and then connect a 2.5MM2 insulated wire from the other hole to the L hole in the three holes of the socket below;
4. Find out the neutral wire and directly connect it to the N hole in the 3 holes of the socket;
5. Find out the ground wire and directly connect it to the E hole in the 3 holes of the socket and connect it firmly.
Note: The neutral wire and the ground wire cannot be connected incorrectly (generally facing the left neutral wire/right live wire/upper ground wire of the socket), otherwise it will trip when the electrical equipment is plugged in.
Power socket selection skills
In order to further standardize indoor wiring, reduce potential safety hazards and waste of repeated disassembly and assembly, we will work with enterprises to create a consumer environment where consumers can rest assured and the market order is good. The National Home Decoration Electrical and Intelligent Cooperation Alliance invites electrical experts to jointly launch a series of recommendations on “delivering electrical appliances safely to home”. Provide consumers with detailed and effective knowledge from material selection, wiring, switch and socket design, telephone network and TV circuit design, etc., and guide consumers to choose a home decoration company that suits them and how to communicate with designers during the home decoration process.
Although the switch socket is not a “big piece” like a home appliance, it is related to the daily safety of the family, and it is the first line of defense to ensure the safety of household electrical appliances. Therefore, you must not be sloppy when choosing a switch socket. Electrical experts specially remind that different places are equipped with different types of switches and sockets. For families with children, in order to prevent children from touching the socket holes with their fingers or metal objects, a safety socket with a safety baffle should be selected.
look at the brand
According to incomplete statistics, there are more than 2,500 companies in China producing switch and socket products, and the quality of the products varies greatly. Because many ordinary consumers do not have the method to identify the quality of the products, coupled with the limited understanding of the switch socket brand, some unscrupulous businessmen have a living space, and some fake and inferior products flow into the market. Of course, many large companies pay great attention to their brand image, have high requirements for product quality, and relatively have guaranteed after-sales service. The quality guarantee is usually not less than 12 years. Therefore, in order to use it with confidence, it is best to choose a large company or a brand with a good reputation for switch sockets.
check appearance
The socket panel should be uniform in color, smooth in surface, free from dents, variegated colors, bubbles, stains, cracks, swelling, lack of glue, deformation, scratches, shrinkage and other defects. There are no burrs, cracks, corrosion marks, rust, and screw head damage on metal parts.
weight
You should also weigh the weight when purchasing a switch socket. If the merchant chooses a thin copper sheet, it will feel lighter. The copper sheets and terminals used in good switch sockets are usually thicker and relatively heavy. Copper parts are the key part of the switch socket, and also the key part to identify counterfeit and inferior products. Consumers should also pay attention when purchasing: some unscrupulous manufacturers will add iron plates to their products to increase the weight, we must see clearly when purchasing.
identify the place
Different places should be equipped with different types of switches and sockets. There is often water and oil fumes in the kitchen and bathroom. It is best to install a splash-proof box or a plastic baffle on the socket panel, which can effectively prevent short circuits caused by oil pollution and water vapor intrusion. For families with children, in order to prevent children from touching with fingers or poking socket holes with metal objects, it is best for parents to choose safety sockets with safety baffles.
In addition, when installing a three-hole socket, the ground wire must not be useless, let alone connect the ground wire directly to the gas pipe. These practices are quite dangerous, and the ground wire is connected to the electrical casing. Once an electrical appliance leaks electricity, it will cause electric shock.
special socket
Household outdoor waterproof socket, 220V 10A three-prong and two-prong plugs can be used in non-protected state to meet household needs. (The protection level IP66 can meet the needs of the family. IP66 means that it will not enter the water when it is sprayed violently in all directions, and it will not enter the water after soaking in 1 meter of water for 1 hour.) It should be noted that outdoor sockets are generally made of plastic, and anti-aging should be considered.
Many people don’t know that there is already a household 10A “fingerprint” outdoor waterproof and rainproof socket. Use an indoor splash-proof box instead of a waterproof socket. The splash-proof box can only protect against splashing water, and cannot be directly exposed to water or rain, let alone anti-aging. This is not safe, and the service life is also because the UV life will not exceed one year.
Outdoor sockets must have five defenses to be durable. Outdoor five-proof socket —–waterproof, dustproof, anti-chemical corrosion, anti-ultraviolet and anti-collision.
Misuse of the power socket
With the popularity of household appliances, the number of power outlets in the home is gradually increasing. But if it is not installed properly, it will become an “invisible bomb” buried in the wall. Relevant survey data show that among the cumulative fire accidents that have occurred in each country in the past 10 years, fires caused by short-circuits in power sockets, switches, and circuit breakers account for nearly 30% of the total. Ranked first among all types of fires.
too low
When many families install the socket, they feel that it is too high to hinder the appearance, so they will install it in a lower hidden position. In this way, it is easy to let water splash into the socket when mopping the floor, resulting in electric leakage accidents. The industry stipulates that the distance between the exposed socket and the ground should not be lower than 1.8 meters; the distance between the concealed socket and the ground should not be lower than 0.3 meters. The sockets of the kitchen and bathroom should be more than 1.5 meters away from the ground, and the sockets of the air conditioner should be at least 2 meters above.
install at will
The power supply conductors must use copper wire cross-sections. If you live in an old house, be sure to replace the original aluminum wires with copper wires. Because the aluminum wire is extremely easy to oxidize, it is easy to catch fire at the joint. A survey has shown that the incidence of electrical fires in houses using aluminum wires is dozens of times that of copper wires. In addition, for the sake of beauty, many families will adopt the method of slotting and embedding wires and laying hidden pipes. When wiring, you must follow the principle of “the live wire enters the switch, and the neutral wire enters the lamp holder”, and a leakage protection device must be installed on the socket.
lack of protection
There are often water and fumes in the kitchen and bathroom, so it is best to install a splash-proof box or a plastic baffle on the socket panel.
In addition, some decoration companies often make the ground wire useless when installing three-hole sockets, and even directly connect the ground wire to the gas pipe. Professionals pointed out that these practices are very dangerous. The ground wire is connected to the electrical casing. Once the electrical leakage occurs, it will cause electric shock.
shared socket
This practice can overload appliances and cause a fire. It is best to use independent sockets for high-power electrical appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, and range hoods. Generally speaking, it is best to install 4 sets of sockets in the bedroom. A set of sockets every 2.5 square meters in the living room. One set of sockets per 1.2 square meters in the kitchen.
less loop
There is only one circuit in an old house, and once any line is short-circuited, the power consumption of the entire room will be paralyzed. Generally speaking, you can choose two or three circuits for the socket, one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom, and one for the air conditioner.
Use the old national standard socket
Universal hole socket, that is, the socket can be compatible with two or three poles at the same time, and even sockets with non-daily-used plugs such as British standard, American standard, and European standard. But this type of socket is bigger because of the jack, and the contact area of the spring contact piece of the socket and the electrical plug is too small, and the overheating of the metal terminal piece causes the generation of fire accident.
The two-core socket is easier to distinguish from the appearance. Any product with a three-pole jack on the plug board, but only two pins on the plug of the socket itself, is a two-core problem socket. This type of two-core socket lacks a ground wire. During use, once an insulating part inside the appliance is damaged, the current will cover the entire surface of the appliance. Since the current cannot be introduced into the ground through the two-core socket, it is very easy to cause electric shock accidents.
Attention to the selection of power socket
1. The power socket should be a product that has passed the inspection of the national product quality supervision department.
2. The power socket in the residence should use a safety socket, and the wet place such as the bathroom should use a splash-proof socket;
3. The rated current of the power socket should be greater than 1.25 times the rated current of the known equipment used. Generally, the rated current of a single-phase power socket is 10A. The dedicated power socket is 16A. The power distribution circuit and connection mode of special high-power household appliances should be selected according to the actual capacity;
4. For the convenience of plugging, the number of combined sockets is preferably two, and the maximum (including switches) is no more than three;
5. For household appliances that may cause electric shock when plugged into the power supply, a socket with a switch to disconnect the power supply should be used.
6. In relatively humid places, the socket should be installed with a waterproof box at the same time.
Installation attention of power socket
1. The installation height of the socket should be installed according to the design requirements when it is specified in the design. When the design is not clear, it should generally meet: the socket with a safety door is not less than 0.3M. The socket without safety baffle is not lower than 1.8M. It is recommended to buy sockets with baffles as much as possible, because there is not much difference in price between the two.
2. Well-sealed waterproof and splash-proof sockets should be used in toilets or other humid places. (Note: The socket with a safety door is based on the general socket and adds a plastic baffle (safety door) in front of the metal reed of the jack. The three-hole socket, when the plug is inserted, the grounding pile head (slightly longer) is inserted into the hole first , the action of the mechanism in the socket opens the other two hole doors. The two hole sockets must be inserted into the socket pile head at the same time, and the safety door can be opened to prevent children from accidentally inserting metal objects and causing safety accidents.)
3. When the socket is installed, its panel should be straight and close to the wall. And the wiring (phase) should conform to: single-phase two-hole socket, the right hole facing the socket or the upper hole is connected to the phase wire (live wire), and the left hole or the lower hole is connected to the neutral wire. Single-phase three-hole socket, the right hole facing the socket is connected to the phase wire (L, live wire), the left hole is connected to the neutral wire (N), and the upper hole is connected to the ground wire (PE).
