RJ45 extension cable split into two

Ethernet Class 1: It is mainly used to transmit voice (Class 1 standard is mainly used for telephone cables before the early 1980s), which is different from data transmission.

Ethernet Class II line: the transmission frequency is 1MHZ, which is used for voice transmission and data transmission with a maximum transmission rate of 4Mbps. Common in older token rings that use the 4MBPS specification token passing protocol.

Ethernet Category 3: Cables specified in the ANSI and EIA/TIA568 standards. The transmission frequency of this cable is 16MHz, which is used for voice transmission and data transmission with a maximum transmission rate of 10Mbps, and is mainly used for 10BASE–T.

Ethernet Category 4 cable: The transmission frequency of this type of cable is 20MHz, used for voice transmission and data transmission with a maximum transmission rate of 16Mbps, mainly used for token-based LAN and 10BASE-T/100BASE-T.

Ethernet Category 5 cable: This type of cable increases the winding density and is covered with a high-quality insulating material. The transmission rate is 100MHz, used for voice transmission and data transmission with a maximum transmission rate of 100Mbps, mainly used in 100BASE-T and 10BASE-T networks. This is the most commonly used Ethernet cables.

Ethernet Category 5e cable: Category 5e has small attenuation, less crosstalk, higher attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio (ACR) and signal-to-noise ratio (Structural Return Loss), smaller delay error, and greatly improved performance improve. Category 5e cables are mainly used for Fast/Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps).

Ethernet Category 6: The transmission frequency of this type of cable is 1MHz to 250MHz. At 200MHz, the Category 6 wiring system should have a larger margin attenuation and crosstalk ratio (PS-ACR), which provides twice the bandwidth of Category 5e. The transmission performance of Category 6 wiring is much higher than that of Category 5e standard, and it is most suitable for applications with a transmission rate higher than 1Gbps.

An important difference between Category 6 and Category 5e lies in the improved performance in terms of crosstalk and return loss. For the new generation of full-duplex high-speed network applications, excellent return loss performance is extremely important. The basic link model has been canceled in the six types of standards, and the wiring standard adopts a star topology. The required wiring distance is: the length of the permanent link cannot exceed 90m, and the length of the channel cannot exceed 100m.

Cat6e cable: Cat6e network cable is a high-performance wiring system that can still operate normally at temperatures above 40°C, and its frequency is up to 300MHz bandwidth. It can still reach the performance index of 20°C specified in the 6th category standard at 50°C. In order to distinguish it from ordinary Category 6 cabling systems, this kind of wiring whose bandwidth performance far exceeds Category 6 is called Super Category 6. Support 10 Gigabit Internet (10 Gbps) data. .

Category 7 line: This line is the latest twisted pair in the ISO category 7/F class standard. It is mainly to adapt to the application and development of 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology. But it is no longer an unshielded twisted pair, but a shielded twisted pair, so its transmission frequency can reach at least 500 MHz, which is more than twice that of the six types of wires, and the transmission rate can reach 10 Gbps.

Category 8 network cable: It is the latest generation of network cable, which is double-layer shielded (SFTP) like Category 7 network cable. It has two wire pairs, 2000MHz super widescreen, and can support 25 Gbps and 40 Gbps network cabling. Its maximum transmission distance is only 30m, so it is generally used for the connection of servers, switches, distribution frames and other equipment in short-distance data centers.

In the ISO/IEC-11801 standard, Cat8 network cables are divided into Category I and Category II according to the channel level. Among them, the shielding types of Category I Cat8 and Category 8 network cables are U/FTP and F/UTP, which are backward compatible with RJ45 connector interfaces of Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6a. Category II Cat8 Category 8 network cable shielding type is F/FTP or S/FTP, which is backward compatible with TERA or GG45 connector interface.

Twisted pair can be divided into unshielded twisted pair (UTP=UNSHIELDED TWISTED PAIR) and shielded twisted pair (STP=SHIELDED TWISTEDPAIR).

The outer layer of the shielded twisted-pair cable is wrapped with aluminum platinum to reduce radiation, but it cannot completely eliminate radiation. Shielded twisted-pair cables are relatively expensive and more difficult to install than unshielded twisted-pair cables.

The unshielded twisted pair cable has the following advantages: no shielding jacket, small diameter, saving space occupied; light weight, easy to bend, easy to install. Minimize or eliminate near-end crosstalk; flame retardant; independent and flexible, suitable for structured integrated wiring.

2. Use of twisted pair
10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX require only two pairs of wires to operate. That is, the network card on the device side only uses two pairs of pins in the RJ-45 interface: pins 1 and 2 (send signals), pins 3 and 6 (receive signals). Because 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX only need two pairs of wires. Category 5 has four pairs, so while not standard it is possible to use normally unused pairs (pins 4–5, 7–8) on a Category 5 cable at 10 and 100 Mbit /s rate to run two networks simultaneously.

1000BASE-T and Power over Ethernet need to use four pairs of wires at the same time. It is speculated that in half-duplex mode, 10/100M uses one pair of twisted pairs, and 1000M uses two pairs of twisted pairs.
